Have you ever felt remorse and extreme guilt for past sins that you've committed?

That's probably a little more common than maybe what you realize.

And Dr. David K. Bernard is going to address how we handle guilt, shame, and remorse on today's episode of

apostolic life in the 21st century. Dr. Bernard, we recently received an email from a listener

who lives outside North America. Now, this person's been a Christian for about 30 years,

he said in the email. But prior to becoming a Christian, he was actually a member of a group

that has been classified by the U.S. and Canadian governments and other governments as a terrorist

organization. This person confessed that while he was a sinner, while he was part of this group,

he was a witness to some really heinous acts. It sounds like from his email that these

acts were committed against Christians. So today, now he's born again. He's been filled with

the spirit. He's an apostolic believer, but he feels, he said, extreme remorse and guilt when he

thinks about the acts that he witnessed when he was a sinner.

He said in his email, he said, I know scripture tells me that my sins of the past are as far

as far as the east is from the west. But what of this recurring shame, darkness, and agony

that comes to the heart of this believer every time he remembers his old sins. And he asks a

question, is this part of my penance? I think the reason why we wanted to present this question to you

today is there are many people in our listening audience that maybe they haven't been part of a

terrorist organization, but they've done things in their past before they came to Christ, maybe even

after they came to Christ, that they feel deep shame and remorse for. How do they handle that? Is that punishment from

God, or is it something else going on? You know, that's a great question, and I would hope that

most of our listeners haven't gotten to the extent of this person, but still it's a real question

for everyone, because all have sinned and comes short of the extent of this person. But still, it's a real question for everyone,
