Hello, this spring we lost my 28 year old nephew Nick Watkins.

He was brilliant and extremely accomplished chemist, graduating with a PhD in chemistry

from North Western.

As well as being an amazing scientist, Nick was dedicated to promoting and inclusive

community by leaving the way and being a representative of it for those who historically do not have

one in STEM.

Nick founded Ghost STEM, the North Western graduate chapter of Out in Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics, where he served as a president for three years.

His vision was to build a network for the LGBTQ plus graduate student to pursue professional

development and mentoring.

I miss him every day.
