My girlfriend and I live in New York City and there's a popular app where you buy left

over restaurant food. Restaurants advertise quote unquote surprise bags at a reduced

price in order to reduce food waste. Customer doesn't know what they're getting until

they pick the food up, but the cost is at least three times lower than the normal menu

price. So if an entree is normally $24, the restaurant is allowed to charge $8 at most

for it. Can I stop you right there because this is a concept I haven't heard of before?

Say that again. That they have surprise bags is a special app. So in order to reduce

food waste because they throw this out at the end of the night, you can go on and be like,

yes, I'll take this restaurant surprise bag. So you don't know what you're getting in

it. But it's like a third of the cost. So it's genius. If you think about it.

Yeah. So let's say I just don't like salmon. I may end up there though with a bag of salmon.

Yeah. You may have a whole set. You don't get to choose, but the thing is it's a third of the

cost. So maybe like you might get a porterhouse steak from the best steak restaurant in the city

for a third of the cost or you might get their salmon salad and hate it. It's not interesting.

Okay. I feel like this is probably beneficial to for a lot of bakeries as far as leftover

breads and bagels and things of that nature that would otherwise just get tossed.

Right. So he says they're hit or miss. Sometimes you get exactly what you want at a greatly

reduced price. Sometimes you get something that you otherwise wouldn't have picked off the menu.
