Summary

On Monday's episode, ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz broke down the bind the Lakers (with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook), and other "mercenary" style NBA teams like the Clippers and Nets face when building a roster that tries not only to have talent but cohesion and culture. The second half of the show focuses on their coaching vacancy, which is seemingly thought of by Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss as too big for a first-timer like, say, former Lakers/current Bucks assistant Darvin Ham? Well, according to Arnovitz, not so much. He points to Ham as a blindingly obvious candidate for the Lakers to interview (which he actually said before news broke into the weekend that the Lakers will, in fact, talk with him). Are there other assistants out there the Lakers should be paying attention to? What about among the "retreads?" All of this points to big questions about the process we're about to see play out. There are no slam dunk obvious candidates. There are many the Lakers could probably find success with, if that coach is given the right tools, the right roster, and a culture that makes sense. Will that happen? Are the Lakers more concerned about winning the press conference? Keeping control in the basketball ops department by choosing assistants and having Kurt Rambis sit in on coaches meeting We're about to find out. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky (Guest: Kevin Arnovitz) SEGMENT 1: The narrative is the Lakers aren't a "starter job." It's one belied by their history. Will the Lakers limit themselves, though? SEGMENT 2: All about Darvin Ham! SEGMENT 3: What kind of process will the Lakers take in their coaching search? Who gets on the list and why? More importantly, who doesn't get on the list, and why?
