Summary
Much of the world were relieved when Donald Trump was defeated back in 2020 - but as Joe Biden's administration plunges new depths of unpopularity, how much of a mess is it in? Whose fault is the stalling of the domestic agenda? How serious are his gaffes on Russia's invasion of Ukraine? What hope of a progressive fightback - not least as midterms loom, and Trump is ahead in the polls?
We're joined by brilliant commentators from across the Atlantic.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to the show. Now, the US, we've not talked about US politics |
| 0:12.1 | for quite a while. It remains the global Hegemon, so clearly what happens within the political |
| 0:17.8 | ecosystem of the United States is pretty important for the rest of the world. Now, back |
| 0:21.5 | in 2020, there's quite a broad political coalition, I would say, which was, I suppose |
| 0:26.1 | relieved that Donald Trump lost, whatever people thought about Joe Biden and his political |
| 0:30.8 | prospectus and the administration that he then formed. There was a general sense of thank |
| 0:36.6 | F. Donald Trump is no longer president of the United States. And I suppose what's interesting |
| 0:44.2 | is what has happened since because the Biden coalition, I suppose, or what propelled |
| 0:51.8 | him to power. It's quite a different context from, say, Barack Obama in 2008, not least |
| 0:59.0 | because you now have actually quite a big progressive movement in the United States, |
| 1:04.0 | which crystallized around Bernie Sanders insurgent campaigns back in 2016 and 2020. And that's |
| 1:09.8 | particularly appealing to younger Americans, millennials and zoomers, much the same political |
| 1:15.0 | phenomenon as here in Britain. And they have very radical, often political ambitions, |
| 1:21.1 | which obviously are, which arise from their own material conditions, the huge insecurity |
| 1:27.2 | which exists in a neo-liberal economic paradigm over the United States, as much as it is |
| 1:33.6 | the case here in Britain. So I suppose the question is now, because Biden, in fact, before |
| 1:39.8 | I bring in, we've got two brilliant guests to talk this through. If we look at his polling, |
| 1:45.2 | it's bad, in fact, very, very bad. The number of Americans disapproving of Biden has |
| 1:52.3 | surged, the number of Americans who approve of him has fallen, so approving of him has |
| 1:58.7 | fallen very dramatically. Now, there were midterm elections coming up. Now, given the knife |
| 2:05.1 | that exists in the Senate, which has left the administration at the mercy of particularly |
| 2:10.2 | two conservative Democrats, which has caused massive problems for their domestic agenda, |
