Joe Biden went into the first debates of the 2020 campaign as the Democratic Party's

front rucker. And he still is.

But his early performance has been shaky.

His once commanding lead in the polls has shrunk.

And some Democrats say they'd rather put their time and money into any candidate,

but Biden.

Ross, you are a more dispassionate observer than many Democrats are.

So what's your take on this?

Do you think progressives are exaggerating Biden's problems as a form of wishful thinking?

No, I think Biden has always been a front runner with pretty obvious weaknesses,

starting with the distance between his record and where his party has ended up,

but then accentuated by his age.
