0:40.4	there are people who argue that America was founded on Christian principles, that our founding
0:46.3	documents reflect biblical teachings, at least to some degree, that our founders were Christian
0:51.5	men or that they were profoundly influenced by Christianity.
0:56.6	And so as a result, America is a Christian nation.
1:00.6	Then there are folks who argue really the opposite.
1:09.2	They would say that America was founded on unjust practices like slavery or the violent exploitation of indigenous people.
1:12.7	From their point of view, America is irreparably flawed.
1:18.9	Which view do you feel like is closer to the truth? Is America a Christian nation, just like our Pledge of Allegiance says, one nation under God? Or is our country flawed from its founding?
1:27.8	My answer is in the middle somewhere.
1:30.6	I don't think we're a Christian nation in the full sense.
1:35.4	Yes, historically, the majority of people who came to America who were born in America
1:40.7	were Christians of some sort.
1:42.8	However, from the beginning, we had Jews, Muslims, deists, people who were born in America were Christians of some sort. However, from the beginning, we had Jews, Muslims, deists, people who weren't religious.
1:50.3	America is not an apostolic Pentecostal nation.
1:52.9	America has always allowed freedom of religion.
1:55.6	So it's always been diverse.
