We contacted the autism brain back here in the United Kingdom where they had brain tissues

0:10.8

from 10 individuals who died with a diagnosis of autism. Five of those brains were suitable

0:17.7

for quantitative analysis where we could measure how much aluminium was present and all

0:23.1

10 were suitable to use our very beautiful technique of imaging aluminium in tissue and

0:30.0

brain tissue. And that's what we did. And when my PhD student who did the first measurements

0:37.8

of the aluminium, how much aluminium there was in the brain tissue came to me with the

0:44.5

results I told her to go back and look at all of this again because we thought we had

0:52.1

seen astronomical amounts of aluminium in familial Alzheimer's disease. And then we saw

0:58.7

values at least as high in autism brain tissue. And as I wrote eventually in the publication

1:06.9

that we made in the abstract, you know, why a 15 year old boy brain when he died would

1:16.2

have amounts of aluminium almost never measured before is almost incomprehensible.
