to Politico's nerd cast Well, last week we talked about Virginia's primaries for governor, but while the Democratic

side was the hot ticket going in, it was actually the GOP primary that ended up being much, much closer.

Corey Stewart, an underfunded Trump supporting county supervisor who made his big splash in the campaign

defending Confederate monuments, came very close to beating Ed Gillespie, former Republican

National Committee Chairman.

We'll talk about what that means for the governor's race and whether it has any broader implications

for the Republican primary heading into primaries next year for

the 2018 elections, among other things.

We'll also talk about the White House trying to rally big GOP donors to give a jumpstart

to its policy agenda.

But we're going to start off today's episode by talking about the shooting that happened at a practice for the Republican

Congressional Baseball team on Wednesday.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others were shot by a gunman who's

ultimately shot and killed by Capitol police officers who were there and prevented things

from getting worse than they were.

So we're gonna talk a little bit about that,

some of the reaction to that,

and whether it's going to herald a little bit of a change

in our politics or not.
