I'm John Batson with my colleague and friend and mentor Gregory Copley, Defense and Foreign Affairs.

At Defense and Foreign Affairs remarks by Gregory pointing to hard questions that I do not have immediate answers with.

The hardest one I run into is, what was the strategic point of a U.S. conflict with the clerics, Gregory

writes. Was it to cap off the Israeli attacks and bring a final cessation of the conflict?

But what benefits would the conflict bring Washington? Good question, Gregory. I don't have an

answer. Are there answers or Will this emerge in time?

I think there are answers, and I think they're more subtle, and we may see secondary

answers which will emerge as being very beneficial to the United States. Certainly the U.S.

wanted cessation of Iranian sponsorship of guerrilla warfare and insurgency against

not only Israel, but against other countries in the world, to stop being, if you like, a

thorn in the side of Israel and the West and the Arabian countries.

So it, but the United States saw that the Iranian situation was not working out as well

as expected for Israel. Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu, based his approach on going to war with

Iran, was that we have to stop Iran getting nuclear weapons. We already know,

and the US government already knows that Iran, in fact, has had nuclear weapons since 1991,

could probably deploy some weapons right now, but what good would they do, even if they could
