Summary
HOW SERIOUSLY should Christians take a book that’s not in the Bible, written thousands of years after the man it’s named for, and has caused controversy in the church for the last 2,000 years?
Of course, we’re talking about the Book of Enoch—or, more accurately, the Book of 1 Enoch. (There are a 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch, both written during the Christian era. They really aren’t of much use to Christians.)
Dr. Judd Burton (www.BurtonBeyond.net), author of Interview with the Giant; Doug Van Dorn (www.douglasvandorn.com), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods; and Brian Godawa (www.Godawa.com), best-selling author of the theological thriller Cruel Logic and the new novels Judah Maccabee Parts 1 & 2, join us to discuss 1 Enoch and why it’s attracted so much attention and generated so many arguments between Christians.
We discuss the significance of the Book of 1 Enoch, exploring its structure, relevance, and the controversies surrounding its place in Christian theology. We explore 1 Enoch’s connections to the New Testament, particularly the concept of the Son of Man, and its historical importance in shaping early Christian thought. The discussion also highlights the geographical context of the book and its influence on understanding biblical narratives.

| 0:00.0 | This is a view from the bunker. |
| 0:03.0 | Now, here's Derek Gilbert. |
| 0:08.0 | What can we Christians learn from a book that is called pseudipigrapha, meaning it is not actually named for the guy who wrote it? |
| 0:16.0 | And in all probability, if it was written, well, the guy who it's named for probably lived millennia |
| 0:22.3 | before the book itself, which is written in multiple parts. We'll get into all of that tonight |
| 0:28.3 | as we bring you this month's Iron and Myth roundtable discussion on a view from the bunker. |
| 0:33.3 | I'm Derek Gilbert, joining me as always, the bestselling author and award-winning screenwriter Brian Gaddawa, the director of the Institute of Biblical Anthropology, Dr. Cowbell Burdened, |
| 0:44.0 | and the pastor of the Reformed Baptist Church of Northern Colorado and Boulder, Dr. Pastor Doug |
| 0:52.2 | Van Dorn, and boy, Judd has just jumped out of us. Did he take offense? Or are we dealing |
| 0:57.8 | once again with technical issues that we had to deal with last month? Anyway, we say cowbell ingest, |
| 1:04.0 | but it's because our viewers have said they want to hear more Judd Burton because he is like the |
| 1:10.7 | cowbell and they need more cowbell. |
| 1:13.7 | The book that I'm talking about is one that we surprisingly this past week realized we'd never |
| 1:20.1 | discussed in 42 previous episodes, and that is the book of First Enoch, which is somewhat |
| 1:27.1 | controversial because there are disagreements |
| 1:31.1 | among Christians as to how useful it is and how much attention we should pay it as Christians. |
| 1:39.9 | So to tackle this issue from a variety of perspectives, as we look at this, we're going to turn |
| 1:46.3 | first to Judd, since we didn't have an opportunity to hear from him last month due to technical |
| 1:50.3 | issues. |
| 1:51.0 | Judd, the book of First Enoch, why is it relevant and how seriously should we as Christians |
| 1:58.0 | take it? |
| 1:59.8 | Well, as to relevancy, it's writing comes at a time, the interbiblical period, after the Old Testament period, where I can remember a lot of Sunday school teachers and preachers talking about, well, this is the 400 years where God is silent. |
