Welcome back to Irish Illustrated Insider. It is Thursday, December 18th, the penultimate podcast prior to Christmas, guys. Say that one five times fast. I'm Tim O'Malley, joined by John Bryce, a football scoop, Tim Priesterman, Irish Illustrated. The incomplete 2025 college football playoff begins this weekend, guys. And we'll touch on that one a little bit later, which I'm sure our listeners are going to love talking about the playoffs that Notre Dame is not in. There's at least two actual playoff teams playing this weekend, though, against each other. So that'll be fun. Some good news, actually, believe. We'll go to John Bryce right here on the Notre Dame assistant coaching front before we get into some M-A-N-I-L scheduling

and, of course, everyone's favorite portal conversations. Yeah, and T.O., you and I kind of match

some information up on this over the course of the week as we chased it. But Al Washington had

interviewed, had interviewed in depth at his alma mater, Boston College to become the defensive

coordinator for Bill O'Brien.

Multiple sources telling me, I think O'Malley has similar information that Al Washington has turned down that job with the intent to remain at Notre Dame as of now.

So he's put Boston College to rest. I think he realizes there's a great thing here at Notre Dame. There's not such a great

thing, even though it's his alma mater, talking at his heartstrings, where Bill O'Brien had a

really step-back year and faces a must-win campaign in 2006. So some good news for Notre Dame

on the retention of assistant coaches front.

I was going to say, J.B., he realizes that the situation at Boston College is not good,

and that's really good for Notre Dame.

One quick note, oh, sorry, sorry to you. One quick note just happening right now is Javon Codlin, the assistant D-Line coach,

that Notre Dame hired from West Virginia last year,

who's been a 30 under 30 for 247 and the R coaching network that I host the podcast on.

He is being targeted for an on-field defensive assistant job at North Texas with the expectation

he will accept that job to be a defensive assistant.

That would be Javon reuniting with Neil Brown, his former boss at West Virginia, and again, a chance to move up. He is, we saw very little practice, as everybody knows. He is a figure at practice. Oh, man. Man, he is, I mean, he's demonstrative. You immediately wonder who he is because he's also a smaller guy coaching defensive

linemen.

You're trying to figure out what's going on.

You know how that works with defensive and offensive lineman? They're always ex-lineman. And you see this guy's like, what position did he play? But he's, uh, no, he's demonstrative. His voice carries on the practice field. He's fun. Preist. I don't know if I said this to you or Pete, but I think for this is, these are my words, not L. Washington.
