Hey there, from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Tuesday,

January 13th. The death toll from anti-government demonstrations in Iran has gone way up to

more than 1,800 people. That's according to U.S.-based human rights activist news agency.

And it comes as President Donald Trump is weighing his options on how to react to the

unrest. He's set to meet with his senior national security team later today. He's already

announced that countries that, quote, do business with Iran will face a 25% tariff. But now,

Trump faces a complex set of decisions for how to go forward. CNN's Kevin Liptec is here. Kevin, what is the president

thinking about here? Hi, David. He seems to have ruled out any diplomatic outreach, at least for now.

He wrote on social media that he was canceling all meetings with Iranian officials until the

senseless killing of protesters stopped. And instead, he told the demonstrators to keep protesting, to take over institutions, and that help was on its way.

Now, what that means isn't exactly clear.

The president also hasn't ruled out airstrikes in Iran.

He's also considering other options like cyber attacks or sanctions.

Anything he decides could spark reprisals by the regime, which has already

threatened to tax on U.S. facilities in the region.
