Welcome to 95 Mac Daily for Thursday, April 16th, 2026.

Leading off the day, the information reports that a group of Apple engineers who are working on Siri

0:18.6

will be sent to a, quote, multi-week boot camp to learn to code using AI.

0:25.3

According to the story, a group of less than 200 engineers out of the hundreds currently working on Siri is headed to this boot camp to sharpen their skills.

0:34.8

The move suggests Apple feels that a portion of the Siri organization needs to

0:39.3

tune up its skills to take advantage of fast-moving changes in programming. This, of course,

0:45.6

comes as AI coding assistants, such as Anthropics Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex, have upended

0:52.3

the programming profession. The report says that AI coding tools

0:56.8

have already gained traction in some parts of Apple, such as its software engineering organization,

1:03.4

prompting some teams to allocate larger budgets for Claude Code. This aligns with recent

1:09.1

industry reports too, including a recent report that said Uber had

1:12.9

already exhausted its entire AI budget it's set for 2026. The information says that the boot camp will

1:20.5

leave around 60 members of the core Siri development team, adding that an additional 60 will work

1:27.2

in a group that evaluates how

1:28.7

Siri is performing and handling commands from users and determining whether it's meeting Apple's

1:34.1

safety standards. The timing, of course, is notable given that WWDC is less than two months away,

1:41.3

and that's where Apple is widely expected to announce the long, delayed, revamped

1:45.6

version of its voice assistant. And as for the Siri AI boot camp, it's unclear what form it

1:52.1

will take, including whether Apple will run it internally, or work with outside partners,

1:57.0

or frontier AI labs. We're sponsored this week by card Pointers, the best way to earn more from your credit cards
