iOS 27 beta 3 came out this week of mail.

0:02.7

And I think the thing that I've seen dominate social media so far is the change to the reminders icon.

0:09.2

It's basically what they've done is like taken the classic bullet point blue, red, yellow,

0:17.3

slash orange, whatever you want to call that, and flip them. So in the center of each of

0:23.6

those icons now, it's a white basically. It's like hollow almost. It's hard to explain. And I'll put a

0:30.1

link in the show notes where you can actually look at it. But people seem upset about this change.

0:35.2

Yeah, because it's like previously the darker color would be in the middle and the lighter color on the outside. And now they've changed it around. So the circles are dark colors. Then they've got this like translucent glass little circle in the center. I think it's partly done for the overall theme of the iOS 27 designs of, you know, more readability, more clarity. So they just make it like a bolder puncher icon rather than having... Because if you look across, especially across like the Mac icon set, they've taken away a lot of the gradients and the blurs and things from the icons to just make them more single, simpler shapes. Again, with 26, they went all out on, like, putting the little effects on everything. And then 27, they've kind of pulled it back.

1:12.4

Like, if you look at the chess app on the Mac, which who knows why the chess apps do exist in Mac or so.

1:18.2

But the chess piece, which is a knight, right, on 26, it was quite blurred.

1:23.7

And if you look on 27, it's like solid.

1:25.3

So, like, there's an overall theme of making the distinct

1:29.5

shapes very distinct and very clear and very obvious and removing some of the kind of like

1:34.0

fuzzy edges, you know, the kind of crossover gradents that could maybe make things look a bit

1:38.5

blower, just a little bit harder to see. And so I think that's where this Reminders app update

1:42.2

icon update comes from, just make it punch you. And I actually quite like it. It probably doesn't make metaphorical sense because if you open the app, and you actually check off items in reminders, the solid colors in the middle, not at the edge, right? Because that's how the app works, so that radio buttons. So it matches less to the actual UI of the Reminders app. but as an icon, I think it's punchy and stands out better.

2:02.9

Yeah, I think it does too.

2:03.6

And I think, like you said, it fits in more with the overall vibe of iOS 27.

2:07.9

I like the emphasis on the center for some reason.

2:10.4

I couldn't really tell you why, except it just looks bolder and more confident as an icon.

2:15.3

Like the kind of the opacity of the outer edge of the old icon, especially at the smaller size of an icon on your iPhone home screen, like it just looked a bit smudgy. Yeah, smudgy. Yeah. Like a dirty window or something basically. Yeah, I think that's the thing they've done, or at least trying to do on all the icons this year. They're getting rid of anything that can be interpreted as like smudginess so it's like sharp more sharper edges

2:38.2

more singular elements and getting rid of blurs so much so like there's less overlapping elements

2:44.4

with loads of blur which i think works most of the time the photos icon i still think is a step
