Your plot twist wizard, Holden McNeely. You think it's going this way. All the standard tropes are there. And then, wham! Ned Stark! See you later! But not Ned Stark in this case, because we're doing an episode on Invincible, right? Isn't this fun? I'm being the plot twist wizard.

Jake, what kind of fun bruiser are you going to be for this one? And it's me, your giant wet, glopping pile of human viscera bruiser, Jake. I have super strength. What did you think was going to happen when I punched someone in the face? Did you think he just, like, have little birdies twirl around its heads? No, I'm going to turn his entire skull into a concave nacho bowl of blood and bone bits because Jesus Christ,

super strength is actually the most horrifying superpower in the world. It is terrifying. And you always

have those little thought experiments. You like, you know, in the dumbest way in like the most, you know, mall rats Kevin Smith way, like how does Superman fuck without like shooting a hole through a woman? You know what I mean? Or like this, that and the other. And you think that you're just like, oh, wait. Or even lately when we get all these superhero movies and they're less egregious about this these days, they kind of try to give you a little more of the reality.

But, yeah, like when an entire city gets destroyed and, say, a Superman film, and all you can think about is, like, all those people in those buildings, what happened to them.

And this definitely is a comic book and now a fantastic animated television show that definitely

deals in that realm.

And I think it's odd, man, there's a couple of interesting things going on here with Invincible

and I would in terms of saturation.

Because what's cool, on one hand, everyone now, it is a household normal thing for most people to take it.

I was about to say indoor, but they enjoy it, to take in superhero fare.

We know those basic rules.

It's almost like scream but for superheroes, right?

Like we've hit the point now where we, everybody knows like all the kind of basic beats of superhero films, you know, the basic traits and things of like having powers and dealing with the great responsibility.

Even down to like on a trope level, stuff like the supervillain monologing to the bad good guys are

confused and fight each other a little bit, then realize they have to do the team up.

Like all these meta structural elements that are now imbued into the most popular form of

popular culture in the entire world.

Yeah.

And now we're starting to comment on those things.
