Summary
In this shortcast Kerry gives a brief introduction into the Book of Job, helping us think through the reality of Job as a person and outlining some of the things Job suffered.
This is an updated version of this episode. Somehow the upload of the last version had a spot with no audio. In this version not only is there audio throughout, but I added just a little more information.
We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and to Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for this podcast.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the Scriptures or Real Podcast. |
| 0:11.4 | This is the podcast where we talk about elements of the scriptures that have become very real to us or in some way have touched us deeply so that we can draw more power out of the scriptures because we believe |
| 0:21.5 | we need that power desperately and that it is real the power that is in the scriptures. I'm your |
| 0:26.8 | host, Kerry Mielstein, and this is a shortcast introducing us to the book of Job. I'm actually |
| 0:31.3 | redoing this. I uploaded one that has had some audio problems and we haven't been able to figure out why it won't upload |
| 0:38.4 | correctly. So I'm just going to re-record this. Maybe I'll add a little bit more and we'll see |
| 0:44.3 | if we can get this to upload correctly. But this is just an introduction to help you understand |
| 0:48.3 | some of the background of the book of Job a little bit better. I have a longer episode with Josh Sears, where we explore |
| 0:57.2 | kind of the main theme of Job, just using Job as a springboard, the theme of suffering and so on. |
| 1:03.5 | And then, of course, there are other podcasts or my old commentary, Scripture Study made simple, |
| 1:08.9 | where you can get more in depth on this. But this is just |
| 1:11.9 | an introductory thing. And we should maybe take a moment to just stop and talk about how we're in a |
| 1:16.2 | different phase of the Bible now. We've left the historical books, these writings that have been |
| 1:21.9 | telling us the history. Really, we've had mostly narrative from Genesis. Obviously, it's not narrative when we get the laws of Moses and so on. |
| 1:29.9 | But really, we've done mostly a narrative from Genesis through the end of Esther. |
| 1:33.6 | A lot of storyline that we've covered, really the whole storyline of the Old Testament. |
| 1:38.1 | Now we're getting into the period that is called the writings, and then we'll do the prophets after that. |
| 1:43.3 | And the writings include things like the Job, Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, Psalms, those kinds of things, |
| 1:53.9 | and then we'll do the prophetic works. |
| 1:55.3 | And so we're jumping in with Job, which is a fantastic book. |
| 2:00.1 | It's a genre of what we'd call wisdom literature. It's kind of |
| 2:03.2 | the speculative nature of wisdom literature. We have an episode on Proverbs coming up where we'll |
