Hi, I'm Katherine Schwartz-Negger Pratt. Like many of you, I was taught about forgiveness

as a kid. I was told it was easy. You say, I forgive you and that's it. You'd forgiven.

But life doesn't work like that.

You're taking it back to a really hard time. Let me tell you the story, how it happened.

A few years ago, I embarked on a journey to find out what forgiveness really is, what

it consists of. I talked with people who are able to forgive actions that most of us would

consider to be unforgivable. In that crash, my wife, who was carrying a five-month developing

son that we were so excited to have, she was killed instantly.

You hate me, I hate you more. And I felt like somehow we were equal because now I hate

them too. It was literally the worst experience of my life and I wouldn't wish that on anyone

in the world. I also talked with people who are on the receiving end of forgiveness about

how someone's ability to forgive them gave them a second chance at life.

On my knees and my chest on the ground and my arms all the way out and I was crying on

the floor and I was just saying, please forgive me.

I wouldn't be here today, I can tell you that. I mean, not physically, I wouldn't be here
