Summary

Introducing; The Evaporated: Gone With The Gods

What if someone close to you just … vanished one day? That happens to tens of thousands of families a year in Japan, and it happened to Jake Adelstein, too, back in 2018 — when his accountant disappeared, just before tax day. Adelstein, the author of Tokyo Vice, and co-host Shoko Plambeck go in search of that missing accountant, and take us on a journey into the fascinating and bizarre world of Japan’s johatsu, or “evaporated” people.
The Evaporated: Gone With The Gods is a Campside Media & Sony Music Entertainment production.

place for the meeting, especially since Morimoto's accounting firm was on the other side of Tokyo,

which is also where he lived, supposedly.

At that point, he told us he was living in Tachikau area, which is far and removed from

1:17.3

Shinjuku. But of course you'd go to your friend if they need help. So we went there and met him,

1:23.1

and we talked to him for a while. But again, this was another red flag for us because we're never

1:28.4

comfortable going down to have a meeting in that area. So there, after a meeting? Yeah.

He said, I have a meeting with my client. I didn't necessarily believe him on that because, again,

you don't meet clients in that area. You don't do it, especially when you're talking to county
