Cover story from New York magazine is coming back for part two. In part one we

investigated the underground world of psychedelic healing. Now we're going

above ground. This is it. This is what's going to fix me and I said I'm going to get

into this study and I'm going to get the medicine. And this is going to be our

answer. We're going to the world of labs and accredited institutions where

clinical trials are testing psychedelics as a treatment for trauma. There are

buttoned up professionals saying that this stuff has real merit. Like am I

actually going to just not have PTSD anymore? Like next Monday? I I kicked the

door down to be in the MDMA clinical trial. Like I thought tooth and nail to get

into that. In part two of Power Trip we take a look at the institutions and the

research that are supposed to be bringing us into a new era of safe and legalized

psychedelic treatment. What did the concept of a clinical trial mean to you at

that time and why did you want that medicalized setting? It meant safety. It meant

that my partner wasn't dropping me off at someone's apartment and leaving me

for eight hours with someone that we don't know while I get high and see what

happens. We discover a whole new set of problems. Like I've never seen

researchers just like wholeheartedly believe that they already know the outcome

of their research. And we look into what happens when someone taking

psychedelics dies. What happened? And he said we we don't really know

we'll know more when we get the toxicity report. It just was so

unimaginable that it could have been drugs.
