Hey dessert listeners, today's episode is part two in which I read your emails in response to

0:07.7

the interview with a pedophile that I posted a couple of months ago with someone who went by the name

0:13.7

of Jay. So if you want to listen to that previous episode from a couple of months ago and then

0:19.2

listen to the previous episode in which I responded to the emails and then listen to the rest of this

0:24.5

episode, I would do that. I wouldn't listen to this episode before listening to this previous two.

0:29.4

All right, so let's get to your emails. Anonymous patron, she wrote and says,

0:34.1

what is the difference between pedophile OCD and actually being a

0:39.2

minor attracted person? Okay, so what pedophilic or pedophilia or pedophile themed obsessive

0:47.5

compulsive disorder? Let me explain. They're completely separate things because they often get

0:53.3

lumped in together, but they are very, very, very different things. Okay, so what pedophilic

0:59.8

or pedophilia obsessive compulsive disorder is, is it's basically a type of OCD. Let me tell you

1:07.2

about a different analogous type of OCD that will help. There are some people that have

1:14.4

obsessions that if they walk across a bridge, they're going to jump off. So if they have full

1:22.4

blown OCD around this issue and you talk to them, you'll say, so are you suicidal? And the client

1:29.3

will say, no, absolutely not. I'm not suicidal. So what are you saying? And the client says, well,

1:36.4

when I am about to cross a bridge, I have overwhelming intrusive thoughts that I might have an

1:46.4

impulse to just leap off the bridge and kill myself. And I'll say, have you ever, and so

1:53.5

eyes, the therapist, I say, have you ever done that before? Have you ever reached for the rail

1:58.3

and almost jumped off a bridge? And they say, no, I've never done that. I say, do you have some

2:04.4

sort of trauma around your impulse control? Like you accidentally did something on impulse and

2:12.9

it was terribly consequential negatively. And so you just worry, are you generally

2:19.7

impulsive? And the client is like, no, I'm the opposite. I'm very careful about my behavior.
