Okay, so welcome to the show. Stuart, how are you doing today?

Fine, thanks. I'm excited to be here.

I'm excited to have you. This is a fantastic book.

So let me just start off with asking why this book and why now?

How did you get into this story?

So I had the chance to visit Congo for a magazine article I was writing,

which was about the present day and about an American diplomat there. And when I went to the Congo, I was writing, which was about the present day and about an American diplomat there.

And when I went to the Congo, I was instantly taken with the place and started reading up

on its history. And the more I read, the more I realized there was this great untold story

about the country's traumatic birth as an independent nation in 1960. And it was front page news of the New York

Times almost every day in 1960 in the summer of 1960, yet it became almost completely forgotten.
