I know it's been a while since our last episode, but I really needed the break.

But anyways, the last time we delved deep into what was going on in China in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Now, if you remember, we saw the continuing fight between the nationalists, led by Chen Kai Sheck,

and the communists led by Mao Zedong, meant they were unable to present a united front against the much

more disciplined and well-equipped Japanese imperial army.

However, as the war on, the nationalists began to combine guerrilla tactics with the more

traditional Western style,

and they were successful in their attempt to bog the Japanese down into a war of attrition,

fighting against an ugly insurgency. And just like the Americans in Vietnam and the Russians in Afghanistan, this meant they had a very difficult time, and they were forced to engage
