Well, friends, I thought I was going to live a very quiet academic life and never, ever, ever thought I'd have anything to do with media.

And yet, here we are.

I've been doing this for almost six years now.

And it's made me think a lot about media and my history with the use of media over time and how my attitudes have changed.

And I'll say this much, media isn't what I was

taught it was when I was a young boy in school. And there is a very rich and tangled history

behind that statement. My returning guest is as a man whose work I admire very, very much.

I think he's one of the most honest and careful men on the Internet that I found.

He's writer, editor, and webmaster of the Corbett Report website.

Thank you for having me here, and thank you for hosting this discussion in particular.

It's one that's very near and dear to my heart.

And mine as well.

James, I grew up as a young boy in the United States in the 1960s, and when Walter Cronkite

ended his program, and that's the way it is, July 17, 1968, you know that's the way it was.

And people used to speculate, you know, someday he's going to retire and he'll make

commercials and he'll get rich because he'll be the most trusted man in America. And from my father

and then from my teachers, I would start to be a responsible citizen. You have to be informed.

And the way you do that is you go to the news. You go to ABC, CBS, or NBC.

You take the local newspaper for serious events.

You would get the New York Times.

We lived all the way out in New Jersey, so it was a stretch to get the New York Times.
