The Hello and welcome to another episode of Interregnum, PTO's show within a show with Richard Seymour.

In today's episode, we talked about the ongoing attacks on Iran,

launched on the 28th of February by Israel and the United States. We talked about the current

military situation, the confusion around what US and Israeli objectives are, and the divergent

responses of European states to the attack. We also talked about how to situate Operation

Epic Fury in the context of gradual US decline and what the prospects are for a revival of the

US anti-war movement. We're speaking on the afternoon of the 4th of March and operations epic fury and roaring lion.

That's the Israeli name for their attack.

The Israelis obviously, you know, very much sharing the US military's taste for these childishly grandiose labels for their military operations.

Those operations are now into their fifth day,

the most appalling moment of which came on the very first day of the attacks with the airstrikes

on a girls elementary school in southern Iran, in which more than 160 children were

reportedly killed, around 100 others wounded. When people talk about the fog of war, you know, that

sort of old cliche, you know, they really aren't kidding. It's very hard to discern, I think,

precisely what's happening. And in particular, who could be said to be winning the conflict,

if that term even applies. But we can say it's probably likely that the Americans and the

Israelis hoped for a swift

collapse of the regime, and that hasn't happened.

It doesn't look like any such collapse is imminent right now.

Iran has also been able to inflict what looks like potentially a major shock to the world

economy and of course to the Gulf states.
