My grandmother lived a life devoted to Jesus, and today her talks have been made available

in their original form.

So you too can be built up through the insights and mysteries God revealed to her throughout

her ministry.

My topic, as you know, for the day is instruments of peace.

This prayer of which you each have a copy points to the old rugged cross.

I think I would have to say that throughout my life, my favorite hymns have been those

that are about the cross.

When I was very small, I began singing those hymns.

We sang Jesus, keep me near the cross.

In our family prayers, we sang beneath the cross of Jesus.

And by the time I was 14, I don't remember if I said it before then, but I think I used

to tell people that beneath the cross of Jesus was my favorite hymn.

It still is one of my favorites, and there are so many.

But I love the second stanza of that old gospel song, O that old rugged cross, so despised

by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me.

For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above to bear it the dark caliber.

That's what means to be an instrument of peace.

He was that for us, wasn't he?

It says in Isaiah 53, the punishment that was administered to him brought us peace.
