Stacey Abrams wears a lot of hats.

She's served in the Georgia State House for a decade.

She's also a lawyer and author of both fiction and nonfiction, and she's an activist.

She was an absolute force in boosting voter turnout

in her home state of Georgia,

helping with a bunch of outside groups

to register over 800,000 new voters in the state

between 2016 and 2020,

leading to the first Democratic presidential win in Georgia

in almost three decades.

We talked a lot about how Democrats

can find their way out of the wilderness. We can't fight the last war and think we'll win the next battle.

That means we need to learn what we need to learn.

What mistakes did we make? What could we have done better?

But the environment also changes.

And so when we spend all of our time looking back at what we didn't do,

we're not looking forward to what we can create. She's run and lost some tough campaigns, but the thing about Stacy is she hasn't

stopped showing up and doing the work to expand accessibility and participation, and also to build

the tools to try to win the next fight. It is to me not just a call to action. It is a moral imperative

that I find ways to be involved. And that's why when I don't win an election, I don't disappear.

That's a tool. Politics is a tool for the world that I want to see. But it's not the only tool.
