In 2023, a little over a year into Russia's full-scale invasion of its neighbor Ukraine,

the Ukrainian army launched a massive counteroffensive.

The hope was to stop Russia from advancing any further and possibly turned the tide of the war.

A new frontline film documents a teeny slice of the counteroffensive.

In it, a battalion of Ukrainian soldiers fight to retake a small village named Andrivka.

2,000 meters to Andrievka, a collaboration with the Associated Press,

is from the same team that made the Oscar-winning film, 20 Days in Mariupol.

And in this new film, we're again immersed in the violence and chaos of war as soldiers

fight, literally meter by meter, to reach the village and raise the Ukrainian flag.

It's an unvarnished look at the reality of war and a deeply unsettling journey.

I know the Russians will continue to reduce cities to a state where there aren't even bricks left.

And the longer it all goes on, the less the world will care about it.

And while it's disturbing in places,

2,000 meters set in Drifka

is also an intimate portrait of camaraderie,

and it's filled with moments of quiet and human connection.
