Unlike most of our podcasts, our timing is excellent today because Tim Montgomery Malley just got out of a one-on-one interview with Brian Kelly.

So let's just cut to the chase on that. A lot of injury news talked about quarterbacks, some big picture stuff, rising young players. What was most interesting that you got from Brian Kelly today? Just starting to knock out the injury news. I thought the most positive was C.J. Sanders is three weeks to a month ahead of schedule, and B.K. kind of admitted he

has to be. He had to be. Otherwise, it would have been kind of a struggle, I think, from where he was, but he's way ahead of schedule. That was huge, and he later on in the interview, not even kind of prompted with young players, just to ask him about, you know, who is kind of a guy that is they're counting on to be better than people guys people aren't talking about and he

mentioned c j sanders was one of them um I asked him about, you know, who is kind of guy that is, they're counting on to be better than people.

Guys people aren't talking about, and he mentioned C.J. Sanders was one of them, along with Jay Hayes, incidentally. But I thought it was interesting. You know, I wanted to talk about the quarterbacks, the defense, pretty much everything that, the off-season questions, and I thought the most important one was to get out of the way is if Deshaun Kaiser improves as a head coach, of course, projects him to do, how can Malik Zaire

beat him out before Texas? Now, Tim, Preacher, we know anything can happen once the season starts,

the starting quarterback can throw three picks and it's over there, but is it realistic

to think Zaire could beat out a guy like Kaiser, from what we saw from Kaiser last year, if they both improve? And, I mean, I thought BK put it well. Like, what does Malik Zaire do that Deshaun Kayser doesn't do as well? Off-schedule makes plays. The play breaks down. You're off-scheduleeds aren't there anymore. Everyone's covered. Malik Zaire can find someone downfield, can scramble, can gain 15 yards like that, can throw a touchdown pass in that situation.

I think they both do it well. I think Zaire does that part a little bit better just because of his explosiveness. But also we saw last year where a play would break down.

And this is where I compared Kaiser to ever Golson.

The one thing Golson did great was when a play would break down, he'd keep his eyes up.

He'd rolling.

He'd still find somebody downfield.

Kaiser can do that too.

So, I mean, I think that's kind of that strength that he, he's trying to put the

best face on this. Sure. And I understand that. And he does it more explosively than Kaiser,

but I don't think it's that substantially better. No, I, I think in the concept of learning the

playbook, to me, it's similar when, you know, your kids, your

three-year-old says, when am I going to be as old as my big sister?

And the answer is never, because like your big sister is getting older as well.

And just like that gap is still going to be there moving forward.
