Summary

Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, their last home game of the season. However, it was Bruno Fernandes who was the focus of most attention (in the game, at least) as he equalled the record for assists by one player in a Premier League campaign. He can still make it his own at Brighton next week, but really should have done so already going by his remarkable chance-creation stats. We dive in.

Outside the game, there was a heartfelt send-off for Casemiro, a man who has made his mark on Manchester United just as he has done on a few midfield opponents over the years (it's in the genes). Elliot Anderson showed he can go head-to-head with the best, but if he's interested in becoming a red he was giving nothing away.

Most of all, there was a real feelgood factor as Michael Carrick addressed fans, even if he didn't update us on his employment status. He, and other senior figures, also attended the FA Youth Cup Final defeat to Manchester City. A disappointing end to the academy season for United on a couple of fronts, but the bigger picture looks healthy.

One place to start, Carl, and you've been writing about him, Bruno Fernandez is a record equaler. He's made history by becoming just a third player to reach 20 Premier League assists. And you've written a piece about how exactly he's done it. Yep. Been working on this for about four weeks now. And there was genuinely a point. I was like, oh, no, he's not going to do it. He's not going to do it. Another one of your articles just got filed away. There was a point where I showed Critch all of the articles that haven't quite made it. And he laughed at two or three of the headlines there. And I think if he was going to be stuck on 19, I probably would have just done all the misses. Like he should have reached 20, but here's what happened. But he did it, thankfully, I will say when the starting arm got unveiled and I saw Sesco was injured again, I did go, this might be it. Because he had a certain affinity with Chesco. And in the first half, in particular, in Bumo, didn't look quite at the races.

2:20.0

And the second half. Yeah, two efforts in the second half. You're going, oh, this is it. So there's the first one where Amad's done really well to keep the ball in play, and he's just taking a wild swing it, and you're like, it's not his day. and there was another one where

2:32.7

I mean the through ball from Fernandez is fantastic

2:35.4

in Berman doesn't get

2:36.9

he shoots it over the cross you're like it's not his day and there was another one where i mean the through ball from

2:34.4

fernandez is fantastic in boom doesn't get he shoots it over the crossbar and then you can see

2:39.6

fernandez just falls down to his knees it felt like the entirety of old trafford fell down to its

2:44.4

knees at that moment and you're going oh my god this is it this is how chironri's done some hoodoo to

2:49.8

get this done but thankfully it's a great cross amad, you know, tries to get a leg to it and Buma finally does. And then that great moment where everyone goes over to Fernandez and it's like, that's my captain. We've done this for you. Lombon's running all the way from his own goal. I know. Delighted. Lombin's made me laugh because he sort of ran the length of the pitch to go and celebrate with him, got involved in the celebrations,

3:10.9

and then sort of ran the length of the pitch to go and celebrate with him,
