Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. Let's call the mind all those we've promised to pray for.

We're bringing to a conclusion our meditations on the Fifth Commandment and we have to at least

address the core fundamental principle regarding war and capital punishment.

Now the Catechism of the Catholic Church says that the right to life is specified by

Exodus chapter 23 where it says do not slay the innocent or the righteous.

This makes it seem as though sometimes the difference between whether

someone is guilty or innocent can make a difference in how we treat them.

But why should that be true? After all, God loves everyone and his sun shines and his

rain falls on the innocent and the guilty. So what difference does the fact that someone is guilty in a specific way make to how we treat them?

Shouldn't we treat everybody the same?

And more specifically, why would it matter in the case of taking a life?

Our Father who art in heaven, hallow would be your name,

Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us a stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
