I'm Chris Hayes. According to basically all of the data that we have in the wake of this election, one of the central issues of the election was higher prices and inflation. And at the same time, somewhat paradoxically, you might say, one of the central promises of the Trump campaign was to make things

more expensive by putting tariffs on imported goods. And we, boy, did we bang the drum on this.

We covered it extensively on this program. Terrorists were Trump's answer to nearly every issue from

the cost of child care to sometimes the housing market. But those proposals were so nonsensical that I think

what happened was basically everyone, from low propensity voters sort of checked out not really

paying attention to hyper-engaged analysts on Wall Street, all kind of just figured it was bluster.
