which is probably a relief to the Trump transition folks and to Pete Hegseth,

Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, who is now facing extreme scrutiny after Matt Gates withdrew as Trump's choice for Attorney General.

So with Congress out of town, what it means is that the Trump team gets a reprieve from

news stories of senators skeved out or worried by Pete Heggseth.

But out in public, those Republican senators are trying to put a brave face on it,

insisting Heggseth has got a much better shot at being confirmed than Gates did,
