Summary
Editor's note: We had some technical difficulties and lost significant portions of this episode, one of which Nick re-recorded afterward. Apologies for the at times disjointed conversation
TRN Podcast co-host Nick Estes (@nickwestes) is joined by TRN comrades Uahikea Maile (@uahikea) and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson to discuss the shared solidarities between Native people in Palestine and Turtle Island and the public letter signed by over 132 Native activists, artists, and intellectuals in solidarity with Palestine.
"As Indigenous peoples, we condemn the increase in anti-Palestinian, anti-Islamic, and anti-Arab violence everywhere. We condemn the increase in anti-Indigenous violence everywhere. We condemn anti-Jewish violence everywhere. We condemn punishing workers, students, artists, politicians, and academics for supporting Palestinian liberation. We recognize that Zionism is a form of racism and a colonial ideology that does not represent the views of all Jewish people throughout the world."

| 1:00.8 | But before we start, I just wanted to turn it over to we can start with Leanne if you want to just do an introduction and maybe why we put together this letter as indigenous activists, intellectuals, and scholars. |
| 1:15.0 | Sure, Anikinuaya. |
| 1:17.3 | It's so wonderful to be here and meeting |
| 1:19.9 | this present moment with some of the fierce resistance that I think has gone into the last 400 years of resistance and of fighting colonialism on Turtle Island. |
| 1:34.0 | And so I think myself, I was in Palestine in May |
| 1:38.6 | as part of the Palestinian Festival for Literature, |
| 1:41.7 | traveling around the West Bank in 48. I had a very visceral |
| 1:45.4 | reaction to what I saw and the people that I was visiting with, the homes that I |
| 1:51.0 | went into, it reminded me of being of being home it reminded me |
| 1:55.5 | of being on reserves and reservations the settler colonialism was very familiar to. I felt like I was thought I was going to learn about Palestinian resistance and the Palestinian history, but what I learned was about myself, I learned about |
| 2:15.0 | colonialism. You could see every stage of colonialism taking place in a very |
| 2:21.0 | small geographic area at the same time. |
| 2:24.4 | So it was like a collapsing of time in a way, seeing what my ancestors would have faced, |
| 2:29.2 | knowing what I faced, but also very much accelerated and with one of the most powerful armies on the planet. |
| 2:37.0 | So watching what happened on October 7th again was in education when I saw breaking through that wall in Gaza and feeling |
| 2:48.7 | those first few seconds of freedom and what was possible. Because I think I didn't imagine that that was |
| 2:55.4 | possible and that was a teaching to myself to dream bigger and to and to find a way |
| 3:02.2 | over all of those walls that the colonialism sets up. |
