Summary

After one heck of a week, Jonah Goldberg has a lot to unpack. Jonah visits the advantages of having Congress on board for war, the case for attacking Iran sooner rather than later, Marco Rubio’s Israel gaffe, Pete Hegseth’s chest thumping, Kristi Noem’s entrance into the dust bin of history, Trump’s corrupt “industrial policy,” the Anthropic/Pentagon dustup, and primary elections in the Lone Star State. Note: If you’re in the Baton Rouge area, Jonah will be speaking at LSU on March 20 as part of the John Breaux Symposium. The Symposium is free and open to the public (with food provided!), but you need to register in advance. Show Notes:—George Orwell: “Politics and the English Language”—Wednesday’s G-File—Jonah’s LA Times column on regime change—Eli Lake on The Remnant—Marco Rubio Explains Why The US Launched An Attack On Iran—Philip Klein at National Review: “No, Marco Rubio Didn’t Claim That Israel Dragged Trump into War with Iran” The Remnant is a production of The Dispatch, a digital media company covering politics, policy, and culture from a non-partisan, conservative perspective. This time last Friday, I was in Tigua? Lots happened, I guess.

So Pippa, my goofy, I think for want of a better term, a very sweet English springer spaniel,

the vets thought they saw a spot on her bladder and needed her come in for an ultrasound.

And I don't think anybody who knows much about me knows that even under the best of circumstances,

1:03.4

I just didn't need another animal health issue.

1:07.0

And so I had a 715 or 7.30 appointment this morning. I got there early two seconds in. She just

1:14.2

starts shaking like a leaf all over. And it just kills me. I mean, again, no one's shock to find

1:20.4

out that I'm a big softie about this kind of stuff. So anyway, we were told that she couldn't eat

1:25.2

anything. You know, I had to have empty stomach since last night,

1:28.6

and that they were going to have to keep her around all day

1:33.7

until she had a full bladder to do the ultrasound.

1:35.7

But instead, I drove home in the beginnings of rush hour morning rush traffic

1:40.5

and was home for about 15 minutes, getting ready do this thing and then I get a call from

1:46.5

the vet saying that they did the ultrasound and she got the all clear which is great news she has

1:50.6

some other issues with her hips and some joint stuff but generally it was really fantastic news

1:56.6

and I could come get her so then in the thick of rush hour I drove back out to Bethesda and retrieved my spaniel.

2:03.6

So that's why I got a late start. It also gives me a good coherent thing to start my throat clearing, brain wiping, flannel-mouthing, word salad, spewing, throat clearing beginning of this podcast,

2:20.6

which, you know, I asked you guys for your opinion about whether or not we should just
