Welcome to the next picture show, a movie The Week podcast devoted to a classic film

and how it's shaped our thoughts on a recent release. I'm Tasha Robinson, here with Genevieve Kovsky. Scott Tobias. I'm Keith Phipps. We've come to an interesting divergence point in our year and a half of quarantine options in that after so many months of focusing on films you can watch at home, now we're talking about films that are opening in theaters and for home viewing at the same time. We're in a choose-your-own-adventure state of movie going,

where you can quarantine or not, depending on your comfort level. This week, we're looking at two

musicals that are likely to make the outdoors in summer look awfully tempting, given how both of them

use wide-open urban spaces and fill the screen with explosive energy.

They aren't always the happiest stories, but they certainly both have the feel of sweaty

outdoor spaces.
