The Dry, director Robert Connolly's adaptation of Jane Harper's novel, both of which were big hits

in their native country. The film stars Eric Banna as Aaron Falk, a big city federal agent who returns to his

inland hometown of Kiwara for the first time in over 20 years. Aaron has come back to attend

the funeral of his former best buddy Luke, who allegedly killed his wife, his oldest child, and

himself, sparing only his infant daughter. Luke's parents don't believe their son committed

this horrible crime, so they beckon Aaron to stick around and investigate. Aaron does so with

great reluctance, we discover, because many in the town believe he was involved in the death

of a girl who drowned in the river decades earlier. As these past and present tragedies converge,

the tensions play out in a literal and metaphorical tinderbox, as Kiwara has been so damaged by drought that an errant flame could light the whole place up.
