Summary

Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, comments on a profound article by Carl Trueman, titled, “Gay Conservatism Is a Contradiction in Terms.” The article features a striking picture of conservative pundit Dave Rubin and his same-sex partner David Janet holding sonagrams on either side of a plaque reading, “Coming Soon—Baby 1, 8/22/22; Baby 2, 10/14/22.” The image is captivating. Trueman explains that the image “plays powerfully to the spirit of our age: Two attractive and charming young men smiling with delight as they display the sonograms of the children they will be welcoming into the world. The moral narrative is what we might term an aesthetic one: The visible happiness of the couple is the key thing, and that plays to the spirit of our age. There is no larger moral vision by which the picture is to be judged….The moral vision here is that whatever makes modern man or woman happy and which technology makes possible must be good.” Reproductive technologies “shatter all distinctions between the sexes….By using technology to conceive children, the burden (as they saw it) of motherhood would finally be lifted off the shoulders of women and the last great oppressive division of labor—that which naturally existed between men and women—would be abolished.” The image exonerates same-sex marriage, homosexuality, dispenses with the need for differentiated parenting, and puts pressure on conservative Christians to embrace the LGBTQ+ agenda (including the notion that transgender athlete Lia Thomas is in the same category as Jackie Robinson). The icon is the argument. Western Civilization was founded on Word; modernity is fixated on image. One takes work; the other can be mindlessly embraced, shaping our worldview.

Hi, this is Hank Hennigraph, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answerman broadcast with another Hank unplug short.

0:21.2

This morning I was reading an article titled Gay Conservatism is a contradiction in terms.

0:29.9

It is a very profound article written by Carl Truman.

0:34.8

And when I found most captivating about the article was actually the picture that

0:40.1

preceded it. It's the picture of conservative pundit Dave Rubin, alongside his same-sex

0:49.7

partner, David Janet. And they're both holding sonograms.

0:57.6

They're holding sonograms on either side of a plaque that read,

1:02.8

Coming Soon, Baby 1, 8, 22, 22, and Baby 2 coming 2 coming 10, 14, 22.

1:15.0

So here are incredibly good-looking men, same-sex partners, holding sonograms, and the image is actually, it's captivating.

1:33.3

And what Carl Truman says about this image is that it plays powerfully to the spirit of our age.

1:47.5

Again, you have two attractive, charming young men smiling with delight as they're displaying sonograms of children, as Truman

1:57.8

puts it, that they are welcoming into the world.

2:03.8

The moral narrative is what we might term, says Truman, an aesthetic one.

2:16.4

The visible happiness of the couple is the key.

2:20.3

It's the key that plays to the spirit of our age.

2:25.5

There is no larger moral vision by which the picture is to be judged.

2:31.5

The moral vision here is that whatever makes modern man or modern woman

2:38.7

happy, which technology makes possible, it has to be good. Truman goes so far as to say that

2:50.5

that reproductive technologies are now being employed to

2:56.4

shatter all distinctions between the sexes, because by using modern technology to conceive

3:05.1

of children, the burden of mother, is finally lifted off of the shoulders

3:15.8

of women, and thus the last great oppressive division of labor, which has existed
