Welcome to our new project, the Daily Bible Devotional. The goal is to help you understand and apply

scripture as you go through a New Testament Bible read five days a week, Monday through Friday,

as we move from Matthew straight through to Revelation. In under four minutes each morning, we will recap the chapter,

make some application, present thought questions for the day, and offer a prayer together.

Welcome back to our Bible study. Today we start this short, potent letter of 2 Peter in chapter 1.

Peter begins by reminding believers that they have received a precious faith through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

He assures them that God has provided everything necessary for life and godliness through knowing the Lord. Because of this,

Peter urges them to grow in character by cultivating their faith with goodness, knowledge, self-control,

perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. These qualities enable believers to live

effective and fruitful lives.

He encourages them to confirm their calling by practicing these virtues.

Peter explains that he will continue to remind them of these truths for as long as he lives.

He insists that the message of Jesus is not a myth,

but it is grounded in eyewitness accounts and the Holy Spirit's work, which shines

like a light in a dark world. Peter opens and closes this chapter with his credibility. I'm an

apostle. I know of the righteousness of the Lord. I'm an eyewitness. And I'm going to keep telling you

over and over again the things that matter most. and they are, you need to embrace goodness and

self-control and love and just carry the character of the Holy Spirit and all that you do.

If we're growing in those things, we'll never lose the Lord.

We have everything we need to live a godly life through our knowledge of Jesus given by
