Back in the 80s, the self-esteem movement gained really a head steam, pardon the pun,

because I remember very clearly parents, schools, institutions, teachers, they all brought into this self-esteem fervor.

In reality, there is nothing wrong with self-esteem. Now, you heard me

right. There is nothing wrong with self-esteem. But before some of you stone me to death,

you need to ask the question, what is the basis of my self-esteem?

That's really the question.

The secular humanist influence upon our society, from education system to business world,

based their self-esteem on athletic abilities, on outward looks, on how aggressive and self-assertive

the person is, or how popular, or the ability to network, his clothes, his outward appearance,

all the image they project on and on and on and on.

These are all not only false characteristics of self-esteem, but they are based on one's effort

and what happens if a person cannot perform. For one reason or another, a person cannot hack it.

Today, some honest social scientists are finding out and discovering, and they're coming full circuit,

and they're discovering that self-esteem is the attitude of the mind, that self-esteem is the

habit of the mind, and self-esteem is the habit of the mind.

Self-esteem is built in us by those who are dear and near to us in a very early stage.

And so when self-esteem is based on performance, what happens when a person cannot perform?

You're going to find discouragement sits in, depression sits

in, or even worse.

And that is why throughout the series of messages I have been emphasizing over and over again

and focusing on the transformed identity from whatever it is to being on Christ alone.
