Summary

Talking is a skill, and not everyone has it. In fact, most don't! This is usually a result of being obscured—or unseeable—to ourselves. A skilled communicator knows how to identify and explain how they feel, and that usually starts with knowing how to examine your own heart and mind. In this episode we talked through the biblical foundation for knowing yourself for the purpose of glorifying God and being more completely known by your spouse in marriage. Then, we talk through some very tangible tools to help you put words to your emotions so you can connect more deeply and fight alongside one another more effectively. We covered a lot of ground, so buckle in and enjoy! The specific resources mentioned in this episode are available on our website, visit https://fiercemarriage.com/identifying-and-explaining-how-you-actually-feel to access those! Our new marriage learning project ~~Gospel Centered Marriage~~ is now open for enrollment! It's a great way to build a solid marriage foundation and finally get on the same page. It's built for all couples—newlyweds, nearly weds, and couples who have been married for years. Visit GospelCenteredMarriage.com to learn more. New mini-courses are being added to the enrichment library monthly! Thanks for listening! If you'd like to support this ministry, please visit Patreon.com/FierceMarriage. I was talking to an author online and came to the discovery, okay, that this particular

person and a lot of people as it turns out, have an intermonologue throughout the day.

0:20.3

Like, and you're one of those people, right, Selena?

0:23.3

I guess, I mean, it's not constant, but I am thinking things.

0:27.0

And that was mind blowing to me is that, because I've never in my life that I can remember

0:33.6

woken up and had like a conscious stream of intermonologue, like, I need to do this today.

0:38.7

Or this is the thing that I'm about to do.

0:41.3

I've never had that.

0:44.6

And so instead, I've been, that's been a discovery thing for you and I because of how we process

information differently.

0:52.4

And for me, I think in terms of like nodes and webs and relationships of information and

0:57.5

ideas, but I don't think in those things in a linear way.

1:00.9

It's like a, it's like an interconnected web.

1:04.1

Well, it just makes you have to learn everything about something before you can put it together.

1:11.2

So for example, speaking in public, I'm a train wreck most of the times because I can

1:16.2

think of all the little, like, if I don't know what I'm going to say when I go into

1:20.5

it.

1:21.5

Which I'm like, huh?

1:23.4

And you're really good in that instance because you think linearly, you don't feel like
