Summary

Patients often come to our clinic wondering why they’re still experiencing symptoms despite taking thyroid medication. Come to find out, their labs and symptoms don’t correlate with a thyroid diagnosis. Instead, they find relief by discontinuing thyroid medication and improving their gut health. I've been down a similar path before—following a lab result, taking a thyroid hormone, and feeling worse, to then discovering a thyroid misdiagnosis. Listen in as I share my experience and how important it is to interpret thyroid test results correctly.

0:45.2

welcome back to Dr. Russo Radio. This is Dr. Micahrucio, and today I will have to share with you

0:50.4

my experience from several years back when I went on thyroid hormone. You know,

0:57.6

I criticize a lot in the field and I hope it comes through that a lot of my criticism is a derivative

1:05.2

of my own personal experimentation plus reviewing the literature plus what I see with patients. And I guess with that,

1:14.0

that I'm trying to prevent people from making some of the same mistakes I've made either

1:17.3

personally or as a clinician and how I've learned my way to this evidence guided, but not

1:25.6

evidence limited, proactive and, you know, very curious model of

1:33.1

integrated medicine that's looking for the best new therapies, but that also applies a filter

1:38.6

to protect you or patients at the clinic from all of the fanfare and, you know, just excess and waste that

1:49.0

unfortunately accompanies a lot of the field. And I also wanted to maybe open this up with a few

1:58.0

thoughts from Scott at our clinic. I think this will be salient because

2:04.9

what I'm hoping this will portray is that these observations are not necessarily unique to me

2:11.7

and that multiple people at our clinic are seeing the same things with our patients. So let me pivot just briefly

2:19.8

here to a snippet Scott shared with me recently, and then I'll tie in my experiment with thyroid

2:26.4

hormone and how I felt. Hey, this is Dr. Scott here. And I wanted to share a quick conversation

2:32.0

I just had with the patient and something I took away from it. So she was telling me she had a possible CBO diagnosis. And when I heard

2:40.7

that, I thought, all right, I need to see the actual lab results. And on the lab results, it says
