It's a deeply unconscious process which makes it tricky to talk about and perhaps difficult to admit that it is our deeper nature.

And Gerard calls this mimesis.

If there's one crab climbing out and another crab pulls him back in, it doesn't actually serve the self-interest of the one that's pulling it back in.

This gets to that old saying, right, misery loves company.

So it is through the gospel accounts of Christ that the unconscious process of human imitation

and rivalry and scapegoating and collective violence were made conscious.

And this harkens back to an amazing Carl Young quote, who said that

until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.

And this is hard to do, right? You got to make the unconscious conscious. But the next time you find

yourself mindlessly imitating a mom, especially when that mob is victimizing someone,

you should really try to stop and ask yourself.

So we're going to do something a little bit different today.

We're going to talk about a particular rabbit hole that I've been going into,

which is the rabbit hole of memetic desire.

And a lot of this has to do with the writing, thinking,

just the writing and thinking of this author, Renee Gerard.

This is one of his books.

It's titled, I See Satan Fall Like Lightning.

I think this might be his most accessible book.

And in the forward of this book, it does a really good job in like 10 pages of just laying out what his theory is.

And so what I'm going to do today is just go through some of my notes with you that I've

gathered while studying the work of René Gerard and try to start piecing together this this picture that he has of humans that
