Hello everyone. I'm reporting in on an experiment I started a long time ago that has

finally come quite literally to fruition and that is what happens if you just plant a tomato?

I'm not talking about

planting a tomato seed and letting it germinate

and then transplanting and glaring it like a regular tomato.

No, I'm talking about planting an actual tomato in the ground and seeing what happens. Now, spoiler alert, I just gave my mom the first tomato of the year from that experiment.

So I think you might know how it turned out.

But here's the story.

So I had a tomato that I had purchased from the farmers market

that just, you know what, I didn't get around to eating it.

I'll be honest with you.

It sat up top on the top of my fridge for too long and then I looked

at it one day and I thought there were worms coming out of it which I admit that's pretty

gross but then I looked a little closer and it turns out it was not

worms that were growing inside that tomato. It was actually the beginnings of

tomato seeds within the tomato

starting to germinate and reach through

to begin their new life.

And so that gave me the idea.

What if I just took this tomato, which is too far gone to eat, and just planted it in the garden?

And so that's what I did. I mixed up a little potting soil, and initially I put it in a 10-inch pot and just buried and I figured you know I don't need to water this tomato that often because it's a tomato under the ground right?

There's a lot of moisture within that as well and clearly the environment within the tomato was good enough to have the seeds inside the tomato start germinating.
