A very good morning to you. It is three minutes after ten. Apologies in advance if we have a breakdown today.

I can just sense the back of my throat beginning to welcome in the winter season. But we will warm ourselves up, no doubt, with a little bit of fireside chat.

I didn't think we'd be doing this for a while. And it may well prove to be that we've jumped the gun anyway and are doing it too soon.

But there are two and a half stories combining to form the first question of the day.

One involves Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union chief, the president of the European Commission,

technically, to give her proper title, suggesting that the United Kingdom could be on a path

to rejoining the European Union. It's an event in Brussels on Tuesday night. She admitted

that European leaders had goofed up over the departure

of Britain and suggested that the younger generation could and would fix it. Listen to her language.

It's so interesting to hear how different it is from the language of warfare and toxicity

that is so often adopted by people who dragged us out of the European Union

and turned us into the first population in the history of humanity to impose economic sanctions

on itself.

She simply said, you have to fix it.

We goofed it up.

You have to fix it.

So I think here too, the direction of travel, my personal opinion, is clear.

And she talked about the Windsor Agreement, which remains probably the only significant achievement of Rishi Sunak's premiership,

is fine-tuning and finessing an attempt to undo some of the Brexit damage done by Boris Johnson's so-called oven-ready deal,

although you'll rarely see it reported like that in the newspapers that continue to cheerlead for both of them.

And she described it as a sort of rapprochement among friends, although she didn't use that exact word.

Let me get the exact phrases. I'll start being a bit more professional.
