Summary
This episode is from my show 'REAL LIVES' - as I recover from a nasty illness and prepare to celebrate a big birthday in a few days time, I'm sharing an incredibly heartbreaking case from a brother who has suffered unfathomable loss and is now fighting for his sister.
TRIGGER WARNING: This episode contains references to domestic violence and suicide. Whilst the descriptions are not explicit, please take extra care whilst listening.
In March 2023, Danielle Haggarty was found unresponsive in the flat of a man she was dating on and off for eight years. The circumstance's in this case revealed a disturbing fact - it's not a crime to witness someone dying and not call for help.
Today we're joined by Danielle's brother Jonathan, whose life has been shaped by a series of unimaginable losses, and he is now on a mission to change the law in his sisters name.
This is REAL LIVES.

| 0:00.0 | Hi everyone, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who's taken the time to listen to this podcast. |
| 0:08.0 | It's been four years since I first released my first series. His name was Stuart Lubbock, |
| 0:14.6 | the first case that brought me to the microphone. Last week on the 31st of March, I released a new version of the series. It's double the length |
| 0:24.1 | than the first time round. It's been re-recorded with added information and updated. A lot can |
| 0:31.2 | happen in four years, but sadly in this case, we are still waiting for justice for Stuart. |
| 0:39.6 | If you are able to share it with a friend on social media or to someone who might be interested, I'd be so grateful. |
| 0:46.6 | Might be able to tell by my voice that I'm under the weather at the moment as well. So this |
| 0:51.5 | week I'm so sorry but I haven't been able to record as normal. It's one of my |
| 0:56.4 | big birthdays in a few days' time and I'm willing myself to get better for it. So I thought I'd |
| 1:02.4 | take this as an opportunity to share an incredibly powerful episode of my other show, Real Lives. |
| 1:08.8 | It's very similar to Real, but a slightly different format. |
| 1:12.4 | There are some incredible guests that come on the show week after week to share their |
| 1:16.2 | stories. From a woman called Eve who discovered that she was married to a bigomist, to Amy, |
| 1:21.8 | who was a survivor of the Dunblane tragedy, to a woman called Natalie, who tells her story of having a brother who's serving |
| 1:29.6 | a whole life term for killing two people, and how that's affected her life, and a man called |
| 1:36.4 | John, who bore a gun into his school after he was abused by his teacher with the aim of |
| 1:43.5 | ending his abuser's life. |
| 1:46.2 | But what happened next led John to now advocate and help others who have survived sexual abuse. |
| 1:53.4 | So in this episode that I'm sharing with you today, we hear from a lovely man called Jonathan, |
| 1:59.1 | who shares the story of his sister Danielle. |
| 2:02.5 | It's very moving and very powerful. |
| 2:06.1 | If you or someone you know has a story that you'd like to share on real lives, you can get |
