So today's show was going to be Oakland political graffiti.

The Bay Area is a unique political microcosm.

It is an interesting time politically, so I thought it would make for a good travelogue to wander around the city observing local graffiti and extrapolating analysis from it.

In fact, I was going to do that. extrapolating analysis from it.

In fact, I was going to do that with my H4 Zoom recorder and XLR mic.

That way I could make observations on the fly, amidst some background noise and local chatter, so it'd feel

like you were walking the colorful streets of Northern California right along with me.

Unfortunately, five days into my Oakland adventure, five days.

Someone broke into my car and stole the laptop I used to produce this program and two XLR field mics, my glasses, some medication, a USB

card that probably has sensitive financial data on it, if not some

racy pictures of vex girlfriends, and the aforementioned H4 Zoom recorder.

Incidentally, I lived in New York City for six years

and the worst thing that ever happened to me in terms of property loss was taxes and the time

somebody stole a package off of my doorstep. It contained boots, cowboy boots.

So tip of the hat to Oakland, California, which could do in five days that which New York City couldn't achieve in six years.
