Welcome to our Realtry meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Now, maybe you feel this way, sometimes I do. I confess the same sins over and over and

nothing seems to change. So why keep going to confession? What's the use? Well let's assume we've confessed all

grave sin and we're in the state of grace. Then why is it that we can't get over

our sins once and for all?

That's because sin punishes us in two ways.

In fact, the Catechism tells us that grave sin deprives us of communion with God, and therefore

makes us incapable of eternal life.

But every sin, even venial sin sin results in an unhealthy attachment to the things of this world,

which turn us away from God. This unhealthy attachment is what we call vice. Vice is a bad habit. Pride is the beginning of

all vice and there are seven deadly roots or deadly vices.

Vane glory, envy, sloth, anger, greed, gluttony, and lust. Now in confession, God forgives our sin and restores our

relationship with Him, removing the eternal punishment of sin. He also gives us an increase of his divine life to

strengthen us to overcome sin and live virtuously, but confession does not remove the bad habit, the vice.

Like a weed in your yard, if we don't take action to get to the root and pull the root out,

the weed will just keep growing back.

So we, our job, our part, is to get to the root of our sin, the vice,

and to do our part to get rid of them.
