Summary

Hey, hey! Thanks for listening to the Brown Girl Self-Care Podcast. Today I've got a solo episode for you. I'm getting real about my recent experience with "comparison-itis" and how a quote from Shawn A. Ginwright's book The Four Pivots inspired me to choose peace of mind over this harmful spiral. If things are spiraling for you too and you need permission to stress less than what you might currently be experiencing, this episode is definitely for you.

Hey, what's going on? You're listening to the Brown Girl self-care podcast. My

0:05.2

name is Brie Mitchell. I am the host of the show as well as the founder of

0:08.8

Brown Girl self-care. Brown Girl self-care is a platform for black women who are

0:14.3

doing the work of liberation, healing, and joy, and existing in a world that

0:21.4

does not prioritize our humanity. So I have a solo episode for you today. First

0:27.0

0:43.2

wanted to share it with you. And it's literally in the title of today's

0:48.5

episode, which is I choose peace of mind instead of this. Now before I get into

0:54.9

today's episode, I like to share what I do for self-care. And there's been

1:01.3

several things, honestly, but what immediately stands out for me is the fact

1:05.2

that I am expanding my mind, y'all. I am learning French and Spanish at the same

1:11.9

time. I just decided to pick these languages up. You know, I have it in my

1:16.8

mind that I can do everything. So I sometimes I just jump in, you know, feet first

1:23.0

and figured out as I go, which is interesting for me because I also am the

1:28.2

kind of person who likes to him and Haw. So I think really the things that I

1:32.6

jump into head first are a clear, excuse me, indicator that this is a yes

1:38.3

for my spirit. And the things that I him and Haw on are either a no for my

1:43.8

spirit or their things that I know that need to be done, but I really have

1:47.7

resistance because I just like I know it's good for me, but I have resistance

1:51.6

because I'm like, I don't feel like doing this. But the things that I jump into
