Summary

Jesus declares He is the Good Shepherd in John 10:11-15 and then tells us what this means for the sheep. As we dig deeper into what Jesus is saying, we see how it relates to one of the Bible's most famous passages – Psalm 23, the benefit of sticking with the Shepherd, and how this concept encompasses Jesus' Death, Resurrection, and Second Coming.

Wednesday night, we're going to continue our study through the Bible. We're going to be going

0:03.5

through the gospel of John as we continue right through the Bible. But on these Sunday mornings,

0:08.2

we take a text from our upcoming Wednesday night. And we're doing kind of a series in this

0:13.1

section, because it's all from the gospel of John. We started the I am series, the seven

0:18.1

declarations Jesus made when he said, I am. And we started in John 625 with

0:25.0

his great declaration, I am the bread of life, which is, you know, your basic necessity of life.

0:32.3

Then in John 8, 12, we came to our second I am declaration. I am the light of the world.

0:39.7

And, you know, he promised that. I am the light of the world. And, you know,

0:46.4

he promised that you will have the light of life, Jesus said there in John 8. And then last week we saw Jesus. He said, I am the door. And he, you know, he said the door of the sheepfold. But the

0:51.4

idea is the door of the sheepfold that protects the sheep. And it's a door

0:55.7

that's open to all of humanity. If they want to come in, they can and be saved and have Jesus as

1:01.0

their shepherd. And we saw Old Testament illustrations of that door. Noah and the Ark, the door was

1:07.6

shut by God. There's a point where God shuts that door. We saw the

1:12.4

Exodus Passover door, you know, where the blood was applied and the spirit of death passed over.

1:17.2

So the imagery of the door is something that's very Old Testament all the way through the new.

1:22.2

And we've seen those Old Testament links with the New Testament truth in all of these I am statements.

1:29.6

Now, you might say, well, Brett, you know, I'm new to this. What's this whole I am thing all

1:33.1

about? What's the big deal about Jesus saying, I'm this, or I am that? Well, it's the way

1:38.0

he says it in the Greek ego and me, but it really comes, Jesus is linking himself to Exodus chapter 3, verse 14, where God told

1:47.7

Moses to the burning bush on Mount Sinai. God said, I am that I am. And he said, thus shalt

1:55.0

thou say unto the children of Israel, I am, hath sent me unto you. And this is that great declaration of God's name. When Jesus is saying,

2:06.2

I am in this context, in the Greek text, the Ego Emi in the Greek, he's literally linking himself to
